The
Institute start with 75 students
in conventional branches like Civil, Mechanical and
Electrical for under graduate programmes initially and
was affiliated to the Bombay
University.
From June 1950 onwards, it has been
affiliated to the Gujarat University.
In June 1955, admission
seats were increased to 150 which were further increased
to 300 in 1957. From June 1963, Degree and Diploma institutions
were separated administratively. Post Graduate Programme
in Electrical Engineering was introduced
in 1954. Post Graduate course in Mechanical
Engineering was started from June 1963 in the
area of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. Post Graduate
course in Civil Engineering was introduced
in June 1970 in Soil Engineering, Structural
Engineering and in Public Health Engineering
in June 1972. Since then, the institute has undergone
continuous growth in magnitude, diversity and accomplishments.
To meet with the demands of the industries, Masters
Programmes in Computer Aided Structural Analysis
and Design and Water Resources Management were introduced
in 1986.
L.D. Engineering Study Program
At present
the institute runs 11 Undergraduate Programmes (U.G.),
6 Postgraduate Programmes (P.G.) and 4
Part-time Post Diploma Degree Programmes. The details
